About Jamestowne…
Much is known about Jamestowne from the Quarter Court Sessions Books from inception 1607 to 1622/3 or just prior to the revocation of the Royal Patent for the Virginia Co. by James I transcribed by Susan M. Kingsbury in the 1930's - a massive undertaking. This record comprises at least 3,500 pages in 4 Vols. in half folio fully chronicling the history of Jamestowne's ventures and personages. There are also several other basic references to add to the list published at the turn of the century and still are regarded as authoritative. One, "Brown's Genesis... " in 2 Vols. and over 2,000 pp. very comprehensively cites many of those who were involved with the Virginia Company with thumbnail bios. and is cited in the prospective membership instructions for use of authoritative resources.
An important development was the 1994 archeological discovery of the first James Fort and 2010 excavation of the settlement’s first substantial church building (1608) by the Jamestown Rediscovery project; both verify the site of the colony’s origins.
The lives, customs, work and religious practices of the early settlers are becoming better known and new stories are unfolding from the relics and artifacts being recovered from that archaeological dig, now well into its second decade.
